VINTAGE VESSELS

today my husband and i launch our joint venture V I N T A G E - V E S S E L S .C O M. when we first started dating i really had no idea that from this giant, burly, numerically minded man i would discover a love and shared passion for foraging for antiques and second hand items. at the heart of it we both love shopping and a bargain, but we are more in awe of creativity and feed off discovering beautiful things. so we started collecting... and obsessing... and now it's about sharing.

i suppose i have more obvious connections and pathways to this venture being a creative. my lifelong love for ceramics, pottery, glass, is honed from childhood when my father worked with luxury homeware brands such as Lalique, Daum, Herend, which were inevitably displayed around the house. my mother effortlessly filled these vases with extraordinary tropical florals and for me this is an everlasting memory of home being set to receive guests, when the vases were filled and ready to welcome!

VINTAGE VESSELS WITHIN MY OWN HOME

barbados itself imprinted this further. i recall a history outing to our local museum to view the artifacts of the native people and am pretty sure even then i thought to myself 'what incredible bowls, plates, vessels... shame i can't buy them...!' but what i do return with every time i am home are pieces from Earthworks Pottery. authentic pieces made from our very own clay, decorated in a rainbow of unexpected colour combinations and simplistic, bold designs.

MY SLOW GROWING COLLECTION OF EARTHWORKS BARBADOS POTTERY

something i recently read that resonated with me was a statement that one of the joys of producing handmade goods is the positive energy instilled and passed on within the item. i feel this is never more true than with pottery where skilled hands knead, press, pull, pinch and shape to the potters will, imbuing their energy and passion into every piece.

from a decorative viewpoint i favour adding a flavour of the unique and unexpected within my final design and i often choose an extraordinary vessel to complete the look but i prefer that this piece is functional as well as whimsical. every home loves florals and i adore the unique character a vintage vessel can bring to an arrangement, or as an objet in itself, through its' individual form, colour and texture.

THE MANY VESSELS WE USE AROUND THE HOUSE

i suppose i should have a favourite style, but in truth i find beauty in so many different varieties that i have been unable to settle on a speciality. my husband also has his own preferences and i feel appreciating his finds, though i may not always be so enamoured, is as important, after all beauty is in the eye of the beholder. therefore our collection is currently formed of 4 somewhat generalist categories CLASSIC, ORIENTAL, MODERN, STUDIO. as we progress we already have many exciting things we want to add, to make our site and our passion as involving as possible.

we welcome you to visit V I N T A G E - V E S S E L S .C O M and hope there are pieces you fall in love with, do also keep checking back regularly so you don't miss a future favourite. follow our instagram as this is where we will showcase all new additions as they go live. find us on pinterest to see what inspires us and a gallery of ideas of how to fill your vessels.
